Car makers have been the engine of America’s economy for over a century. Supplying over 10 million jobs and nearly $1.5 trillion to the US GDP every year, it cannot be overstated how important these businesses are to our country. To protect American manufacturing jobs, economic prowess, and security we need to protect this critical industry from Chinese invasion.
Chinese car companies are not held to the high standards of American businesses. They are subsidized by the Chinese government to wipe out competition by automakers playing by the rules. These companies fundamentally do not have Americans’ best interest at heart.
These companies report back to the Chinese government, and any data collected by a vehicle that has been made in China, could pose a risk to Americans’ privacy and safety.
Until now, our government has recognized this existential threat and kept Chinese car manufacturers out of our country, but the Trump Administration might change all that and hurt American businesses and consumers in the process. We need to send a clear message to Congress and the White House: keep Chinese vehicles off our roads.
