Lawmakers in Congress are moving a package of bills this week that includes harmful legislation that’s a Trojan Horse for insurance companies. The so-called “REPAIR Act” isn’t about fixing your car. It’s about giving insurance companies and data brokers control over your vehicle’s repairs — and your personal information.
If passed, this bill would:
- Let insurance companies dictate what parts are used in your repairs.
- Allow third parties other than repair shops to access your driving data.
- Limit your right to choose how and where your car gets fixed.
This isn’t repair freedom. It’s a windfall for corporate interests.
Lawmakers should oppose this flawed legislation and remove it from the markup. Then, they should pursue real solutions that protect both your repair rights and your privacy.
